Book Design / Illustration
For the Thrill of It
02
Objective
Create a book cover for a horror novel.
How I Made It My Own
I adore true crime anything so this project was my chance to explore true crime novel design. True crime book covers usually feature a picture of the victim, the perpetrator, or the crime scene. I wanted to stay far away from these clichés. The book I chose was "For the Thrill of It" by Simon Baatz. The novel focuses on two friends who killed a young boy and left him in a tunnel in his own back yard. I wanted to symbolize the little boy left to in a tunnel through minimalistic design. To add intrigue to the cover, I added a sentence from the ransom note the killers left the victim’s parents.
